Description
A rich and creamy dessert that combines the robust flavor of coffee with the luxurious texture of mousse, topped with a delightful crunch of biscotti crumbs.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup mascarpone cheese (or cream cheese, if desired)
1 cup biscotti crumbs (store-bought or homemade)
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 tablespoon sugar (optional, for sweetness)
Instructions
Prepare the Biscotti Crumbs: If you’re using store-bought biscotti, place them in a food processor and pulse until they are fine crumbs. If you prefer homemade, bake your favorite biscotti recipe until golden brown, then crumble them after they’ve cooled. Aim for a fine, sand-like consistency to ensure even distribution over the mousse.
Mix Biscotti Crumbs: In a medium bowl, combine the biscotti crumbs, melted butter, and sugar (if using). Stir until the mixture resembles wet sand. Set aside for later use.
Whip the Cream: In a large mixing bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar. Using an electric mixer, whip on medium-high speed until soft peaks form, about 3-5 minutes.
Add Coffee Mixture: In another bowl, whisk together the cooled brewed coffee, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until combined.
Combine the Mixtures: Carefully fold the whipped cream into the coffee mixture in three additions. Use a spatula to gently incorporate without deflating the mousse.
Chill the Mousse: Spoon the mousse into individual serving dishes or a large bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
Serve: Before serving, give the mousse a gentle stir to lighten it up. Top each serving with the biscotti crumb mixture and optional garnishes.
