Description
A refreshing drink made with watermelon, lemon juice, and herbs that is perfect for summer.
Ingredients
Scale:
4 cups watermelon, seedless, cubed (about half a medium watermelon)
1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)
1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
2 cups cold water
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves (plus extra for garnish)
1/4 cup fresh mint leaves (plus extra for garnish)
Ice as needed for serving
Instructions
Prepare the Watermelon: In a blender, add the cubed watermelon. Blend on high speed until smooth, about 30-60 seconds. If you prefer a pulp-free drink, strain the watermelon puree through a fine-mesh sieve into a large bowl or pitcher.
Muddle the Herbs: In a separate bowl, add the fresh basil and mint. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently press and crush the leaves to release their essential oils, about 30 seconds.
Combine Ingredients: In the pitcher with the watermelon juice, add the freshly squeezed lemon juice, granulated sugar, and the muddled herbs. Pour in the cold water. Stir well until the sugar is fully dissolved.
Chill the Lemonade: Allow the Watermelon Lemonade to chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld together.
Serve: Fill glasses with ice and pour the Watermelon Lemonade over the ice. Garnish with additional basil and mint leaves.
